On approval of theEducationDepartment of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, key Laboratory forthe Chemistryand Molecular Engineering of Medicinal Resouresof Guangxi wasestablished in 2001, combined with three keylabs of Guangxicolleges and universities’ construction, whichwere the labs forthe Bioinorganic and coordination chemistry,the Natural productsresearch and development, the Life process andenvironment science. InJanuary 2005, The lab was recogniezed byScience and Technology Bureauof Guangxi as one of the first keylaboratories of Guangxi zhuangautonomous region. In December 2007,the lab passed the assessment of theMinistry of Education of Experts Group andbecame the key laboratory of Ministryof Education in China. And it wasrecognized by the Ministry of Science andTechnology as a state key LabIncubation in Chinese Medicine in august 2010. InMarch 2011, the lab wasrecognized as the Doctoral degree authorizationcenters theof Chemical level subjects, and the Postdoctoralscientificresearch of Chemical level subjects in 2012.It wasauthorized as the State Key Laboratory of Ministry of China in 2016.It isthe first independent state keylaboratory inGuangxi jointly built by theprovincial level and the Ministry of Education.
The lab response theIndustrial policy “Focus on development of modernChinese medicine and folkmedicine with emphasisonthe zhuang medicine” of Guangxi twelfthfive-yearplan Positively, on the basis of 《Plan outline oftheinnovation and development of Traditional Chinesemedicine(2006-2020)》of statecouncil. The lab workon the research and development of guangxi medicalresourceas the core, expand with the development of themedicalresource of southwest of china. The lab work mainly on thethreedirections of “study on the Therapeutic Basis ofimportantmedical resources of Guangxi”, “study on the metal drugs basedon ligand derivedfrom natural compound”, “ design andapplication research ondrug transporters and drug carrier system”,withthe newest theories and methods of modernchemistry,pharmacy and life sciences, and the combination of themultidisciplinary,on the basis of medical resources and inorganicchemicaldrugs research.
Prof. LiangHong, the presidentof Guangxi Normal University, is the director of keylaboratory.Researcher Liu Jikai, the deputy director of the Kunminginstitute ofbotany of Chinese academy of sciences, is thedirector of theacademic committee of Key laboratory.
There are 63 fixed staffs in the lab,among which there is one “candidate of thenational millions ofTalents project”, three “candidates of theministry ofeducation of new century talent plan”,one “candidate of theTen, Hundred, Thousand Talent project inGuangxi”, one “BaGuischolars (pharmaceutical chemistry) ”,eight“candidate of the Ten, Hundred,Thousand Talent project in new century ofGuangxi”, eight“ GuangxiCollege of hundreds of young academicleaders”. There are 30doctoral tutors, 36 master tutors;34 professors& researchers, in which 55 have doctoraldegree. The lab,occupies 9,600 square meters, has a total ofnearly 150 milllion RMBpharmaceutical chemistry supporting equipment, andhas hasconstructed the platform for the Medicinalchemistry technology withinternational leading level, and gotthe ability to take onthe role of major science and technologyresearch in guangxi and eventhe national, and the development ourselves.
In the past fiveyears, the Labhas got a number of highachievements in basicresearch. Over 250 research projects havebeenconducted in the lab, with the total funds more than14500 thousandsdollars, including five “973Project”.36 “National Science Foundation projects”, morethan60“Province/Ministry-supported project”,8 “Enterprise-supported project”. Over 750papers werepublished in the internationanl and domesticpublications, among which morethan 410 were citedin by SCI and EI database.And over 240articles were published in the famous internationaljournalswith IF ＞5.0, such as Nat.Commum., Sci.Adv., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., J. Am. Chem. Soc., Coordin. Chem.Rev.,Chem, J. Med. Chem., in which 30 articles were published with IF＞10.0. The Laboratory has beenawarded 14 prizes of “Guangxi Science and Technology Award”, and has declared227 national invention patents which have been authorized. The chemistryhasentered the global 1% of ESI with 0.41‰ (737/1734) in 1% of ESIinstitutions,and Pharmacy has become the only university in Guangxi rankedamong the top 500 universities in the world.
The lab has becomea center fortalent training and international exchange platform for medicalchemistryresearch. More than 70 doctors and masters can betrainedannually. At present, over200 doctor and master candidatesare studying in the Lab.The Lab has brought a great number of high-levelpharmaceutical specialist forthe universities, scientific research institutesand enterprise of Guangxi.
